At the Bayer site in Monheim in Mettmann District, Europe’s first EcoCommercial Building has been constructed, a daycare center for around 60 children called “Die Sprösslinge” (“The Seedlings”). As the Principal, Bayer Real Estate has implemented a project there that acts as a model for others. Total project costs were around €2.5 million. The building operates on an entirely climate-neutral basis, meeting its own energy needs without generating any emissions.

GreenBuilding Certifcate 
 
In 2010 the children’s daycare center “Die Sprösslinge” (The Seedlings) was granted a GreenBuilding Certificate. The climate-neutral operation of the building in Monheim brought Bayer Real Estate this accolade, which was launched by the European Commission in 2005. This makes Bayer Real Estate on behalf of Bayer AG a pioneer for preventive energy saving in construction. Green Building is a voluntary program that supports property developers in energy-related modernization and building projects.
