Böttingerhaus today
Originally, the Böttingerhaus in Leverkusen was established as a convalescence home for blue and white-collar workers to recuperate for a few weeks following a serious illness. After spending many years as a company hospital, it was last modernized at the end of the 1980s and now needs refurbishing again.

A new concept for the rooms and a variety of other renovation projects will enhance the quality of the present seminar and conference hotel and raise it to the 3-star plus standard. The project, which is being tackled with the cooperation of Bayer Real Estate, is currently at the implementation phase.

Soon, essential repairs in the rooms, renovation of the bathrooms and sanitary fittings, and new wall coverings will impart a fresh flair to the interior. Modern terrace floors and a fresh coat of paint for the windows and facades will give the building a new vibrancy from the outside.

The new room concept

A particular highlight will be the completely refurbished lobby, which will not only be very much larger, but will also feature new signage and a new information system.
Concentrating the catering and service rooms in the basement will mean that all the work processes in this area are brought closer together. It will also improve utilization of the kitchen equipment. Direct access via the breakfast room to the outside terrace, and the location of housekeeping rooms on all floors will help to support work processes. To optimize layout, all the seminar rooms will be concentrated on one floor. Rest areas to prepare for seminars will be separate in the same room. Improved room sizes will mean more space and more scope for design.

The new overall concept will allow greater multi-functional use. During the week, the facilities will be available as a seminar and conference hotel, while at the week-end, the same rooms can be used for private functions such as weddings etc.

With the construction work on the Böttingerhaus scheduled to begin in November 2010, the building will initially be closed for four months. After that, until its completion in spring 2011, it should be usable again but with certain restrictions.
